Making Things

I'm Eric Mueller, a software engineer that can cook. I work in Ruby on Rails of late, and find that mostly satisfactory - my company is Emcien, and it's a pretty cool place to be. I particularly care about data modeling and DB performance (an area in which Rails is somewhat less than streamlined.. but that will be its own post or two). I have a lot of opinions, and some of them are wrong.  I use vim on a Mac, but I miss XMonad constantly.

I like to build things out of wood, metal, tiles, and glue. I do a lot of home-improvement projects, and you can see a few of those at my wife's blog (you may have to go back a few months - we had our first child in September, and I'm only just getting back on that wagon). I like wood floors, butcher-block countertops, and I prefer shelves to cabinets. My house is awesome, and we got it cheap.

My money mustache is growing, and I should be retired by 40. I believe in unschooling, and I love my wife. I am a redditor and a hacker, and I think that the news is a form of reality television. People are largely decent, but I dislike them anyway (..except you, of course. You're a peach). Cars make me sad, and squirrels are jerks.

I won't post inane crap, and my posts will be about a single topic each. I am not interested in 'building a readership', and I have a lot of minority opinions about niche topics (about which I will expound *at length*). Because I like to talk, and you appear to be listening.
